3G Unrestrictor answers begging and pleading, tricks iPhone to use wi-fi only apps over 3G

Thanks to author crash-x, there is a new app called 3G Unrestrictor that will do what VoIPOver3G and Tricker ThreeG have done before - allow you to use Wi-Fi only apps on your iPhone while you’re on the 3G network.  Rejoice!

NuevaSync adds the push email capabilities Google doesn’t (or Apple won’t allow)

The options for push email on the iPhone are 3 : MobileMe, Yahoo Mail, and Microsoft Exchange.  MobileMe seems like a nice service, but I already have my trusty Gmail account (using a hosted domain) and I’m not too interested in migrating.  I had been forwarding all new messages from my Gmail account over to a Yahoo account for the push-like service, but now there’s something new out there that is working pretty well - NuevaSync.

Get SlingPlayer for iPhone working on 3G!

UPDATE 2: This no longer works on OS 3.0, specifically with an iPhone 3GS.  Read more below in the comments in this article, and this post.

UPDATE: As reader John Michael points out in the comments below, Jordan Clark has released Tricker ThreeG in Cydia, which is an alternative to using VoIPover3G for those who don’t wish to modify the VoIPover3G file.  Tricker ThreeG is a nice one step solution to get SlingPlayer working on 3G.  (Thanks John and Jordan!)

Jailbreakers rejoice!  SlingPlayer works over 3G using VoIPover3G!  Read on for our first impressions of the app and how quickly you realize that 3G is a must for this app.

SlingPlayer for iPhone approved, costs arm, leg

Engadget is reporting that SlingPlayer is finally due for the iPhone Wednesday morning, May 13, and the have a few first impressions.  There appear to be 2 huge caveats from the start:

  1. It’s $29.99
  2. WiFi only - it won’t work over 3G or Edge

CIP device - Ring of Mordor

Anyone watching “24″ on Fox probably can’t help but giggle a little whenever the show talks about the magical “CIP device” .  For those of you who don’t watch, it is a tiny firewall-destroying device that can tunnel through those internet tubes and allow its user to hack into everything from any air traffic control tower in America down to water plants, and presumably, your grandfather’s pacemaker.  Yes, it’s the ultimate in “applied gadgetry”, and lucky for us, it’s also the ultimate “plot device”.
